چکیده

This contribution discusses the effects of camera aperture correction in broadcast video on colour-based keying. The aperture correction is used to ’sharpen’ an image and is one element that distinguishes the ’TVlook’ from ’film-look’. If a very high level of sharpening is applied, as is the case in many TV productions then this significantly shifts the colours around object boundaries with hight contrast. This paper discusses these effects and their impact on keying and describes a simple low-pass filter to compensate for them. Tests with colour-based segmentation algorithms show that the proposed compensation is an effective way of decreasing the keying artefacts on object boundaries.

Interactive chroma keying for mixed reality

In Mixed Reality (MR) applications, immersion of virtual objects in captured video contributes to the perceived unification of two worlds, one real, one synthetic. Since virtual actors and surround may appear both closer and farther than real objects, compositing must consider spatial relationships in the resulting world. Chroma keying, often called blue screening or green screening, is one com...

Segmentation with Invisible Keying Signal

Chroma keying is the process of segmenting objects from images and video using color cues. A blue (or green) screen placed behind an object during recording is used in special effects and in virtual studios. The blue color is later replaced by a different background. A new method for automatic keying using invisible signal is presented. The advantages of the new approach over conventional chrom...

Augmented Reality Live-Action Compositing

We shall demonstrate a system that performs live-action compositing of physical and virtual objects against a panoramic background image in real-time at interactive rates. A static camera is directed towards a 40 cm3 miniature stage, whose backdrop has been colored in chromatic green. Users can add virtual objects and manipulate their parameters within the scene by using a proxy device that con...

Video-Rate Z Keying: A New Method for Merging Images

Video-rate z keying is a new image keying method for merging real and synthetic images in real time. In visual media communication and display, it is often necessary to merge video signals from a real camera and a synthetic video produced by computer graphics. A standard technique for such a purpose is chroma keying which is used, for example, in TV weather reports. Chroma keying, however, simp...

Articulated Billboards for Video-based Rendering

We present a novel representation and rendering method for free-viewpoint video of human characters based on multiple input video streams. The basic idea is to approximate the articulated 3D shape of the human body using a subdivision into textured billboards along the skeleton structure. Billboards are clustered to fans such that each skeleton bone contains one billboard per source camera. We ...
